Puff Stitch (puff st): (Yo, insert hook into st and draw up a loop) 3 times (7 loops on hook), yo, draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to close st.

PATTERN
Make magic ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in magic ring, pull tightly to close, join with slip st to first sc (8 sts).
Round 2: Ch 1, puff st in each sc, join with slip st to first puff st (8 puff sts).
Round 3: Ch 1, puff st in each puff st and ch-1 space, join with slip st to first puff st (16 puff sts).
Round 4: Ch 1, *puff st in next ch-1 space, 2 puff sts in next ch-1 space; repeat from * to end (24 puff sts).
Round 5: Ch 1, *puff st in next 2 ch-1 spaces, 2 puff sts in next ch-1 space; repeat from * to end (32 puff sts).
Fasten off.
Repeat instructions for second side. Do not fasten off second side.
Finishing
Hold wrong sides together of front and back.
Ch 1, insert hook into next ch-1 space of side facing you and through any ch-1 space of first side, sc in each ch-1 space, working through both sides, until you are 3/4 of the way around.
Insert ornament without top and continue to sc in each ch-1 space (you might need to pull the edges together as it can be a little tight). Leave last 3 ch-spaces open for ornament top.
Fasten off. Weave in any ends that are seen (most of mine hid nicely at the bottom of the ornament before the plastic was put in).
Place top of ornament on, hiding opening of crochet as best possible.
