Blo (back loop only): Work in the back loop of the stitches indicated.

Ch 2 at beginning of row or round does not count as hdc.

Ribbed Cuffs
With smaller hook, ch 8.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch across – 6 sts.
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc blo of each st.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures 3 (4, 4 1/2)” from beginning, ending with a WS row, join with sl st to form circle.
Change to larger hook.
Body
Rnd 1: Hdc 12 (18, 20) sts evenly across long edge of the cuff; join with slip st to turning ch – 12 (18, 20) sts.
Rnds 2-6: Ch 2, hdc evenly around; join with slip st to turning ch.
Shape Top
Rnd 1: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc in next 4 (7, 8) sts, hdc2tog, hdc to end – 10 (16, 18) sts.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc in next 3 (6, 7) sts, hdc2tog, hdc to end – 8 (14, 16) sts.
Fasten off for newborn and skip to finishing.

Finishing
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Use mattress stitch to seam top of the mittens and ribbing seam. You can also slip stitch the opening closed in the ribbing.
Weave in ends.
